The owners sought to reimagine the oddly proportioned open floorplan of this 1980s postmodern home to accommodate their lifestyle better. TDA responded to the client’s specific programming needs while blending the existing aesthetics with function and durability to produce a harmonious and practical modern space.
Bathed in natural light from three sides, the redesigned kitchen balances sleek modern appliances with natural materials. New woodgrain cabinets and live-edge shelving augment the existing warm-toned maple flooring found throughout the home, while an integrated slate sink, new slate floor and natural wall tiles further enhance the warmth and character of the space. Organically inspired pendant lights are a beautiful design statement above the oversized island, providing ample space for culinary creativity and joyful gatherings.
The new staircase is a focal architectural element in the open living and dining area and is designed to have a minimal footprint and maximize living space. Again, the warmth of maple wood in the stringers and treads is balanced by the functional minimalism of black steel balusters and tread supports, which combine to evoke a spacious and floating feel on the compact, winding stair.
